NEW RUNWAY?.....YOUR VIEWS ARE NEEDED

Regional Planning Guidelines for the Greater Dublin Area

This is an information circular from Councillor Peter Coyle

At present there is an important public consultation underway in relation to
Regional Planning Guidelines for the Greater Dublin Area
. These could have a direct knock-on effect for this area(Portmarnock), in particular their recommendation for a new ruinway at Dublin Airport.

The Greater Dublin Area includes the geographical area of Dublin City, Fingal, Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown, South Dublin, Kildare, Meath and Wicklow and incorporates the regions of both the Dublir Regional Authority and the Mid-East Regional Authority. The Planning and Development Act, 2000 requires these regional authorities to prepare Regional Planning Guidelines (RPGS) for the Greater Dublin Area, to provide a strategic planning framework for the long-term sustainable development of the area for the 12-year period up to 2016.
The KEY AIM is that Regional Planning Authorities adopt new Regional Planning Guidelines by mid-2004 so that the National Spatial Strategy 2002 - 2020 is incorporated through Regional Planning Guidelines to development plan reviews. Regional Planning Guidelines are made by the Regional Authority and prepared following an agreed process between the Regional Authority and relevant Local Authorities

It is intended that Regional Authorities, in the preparation of the Regional Planning Guidelines and Planning Authorities, in the preparation of their development plans and local area plans, are required to have due regard to the recommendations and provisions of the development strategy advocated by the National Spatial Strategy.

The present consultation draft document can be accessed on the website www.spggda.ie

On page 66 of the document is stated:
"In order to achieve air passenger numbers of 22.3 million by 2010 and 31.0 million by 2020, Dublin Airport will require a new runway by 2009, extended apron facilities and additional terminal passenger processing facilities"

If you have strong views on this issue it is important that you forward them in response to the draft.
